playable Demos on PS3

Went a bit Demo crazy last night. Downloaded 3 from the PSN. Hawks2, Madden11 and R.U.S.E.

Hawks2 was more of the same from the first game with a few extra tweeks like the ability to take off and land, which was the biggest hole in the original. There are 2 missions to play in the demo, 1 requiring a mid air re-fueling and the other a carrier take off and landing. Both quite good for these features but the combat in the 1st mission feels a bit samey.

Madden11 is hailed as the game to bring American Football to a wider European audience. In the Demo you are spared having to look through play books and have an auto select feature. While this means you don't have to sift through indecipherable diagrams it means that the plays come as much of a shock to you as to the opposition. Especially when in defence. It's so hard to know who you are controlling and it all happens so fast with boring breaks after each spurt of action it is almost as bad as actually watching a game.

Lastely RUSE. I had a lot of fun with this. I am a fan of RTS anyway and although the PS3 controller isn't as straight forward as a mouse it still allowed for enjoyable gameplay. You get 1 playable mission with a number of objectives giving the feeling of battle fluidity with the ability to zoom in to unit level, or take the broader strategic view like something of the history channel, a very nice touch. It is the one game coming out that makes me think that the PS3 move is a worthy purchase.

I wonder if the new PS3 move controller will make it possible to play RTS games on the console without going mad? Will it be able to match the PC mouse combo? Am a big fan but am unable to afford keeping my PC up to spec with games as they come out.

In your review of demon souls you give game play 9. 9!! Really?? This is a game that kills you every few mins making you restart the level and re-spawns all the bad guys making you do it all again. Chances are that the reason you died is because some ultra hard bastard knifed you and you have to pass him again and figuring out his weakness is a process of hours because you have to kill everyone again. For the same mechanic but a different setting play call of duty and every time you get close to the end of the level turn it off, then on again and do it again. Then after hours of gameplay with f*!£ all to show for it end level.

Wash, rinse, repeat.

I'm sorry but i wasn't sure where to post this, since that it's games related i posted it here, i hope that's ok.

We have announced MidLans 2010 and we will be hosting a number of console and pc gaming tournaments and competitions at the event. There are generally sponsored prizes for the top 3 players/teams in each tournament and some of pc competitions are going to be team based, these can be organized on our forum for anyone that doesn't have a team yet.

I'm just wondering about your reviews. I already have Red Dead so I'm not so much worried about that but went onto your site to see what the view was about Alpha Protocol before taking a trip to the blanch centre to purchase pending a favourable review.... or possibly any review.

Having a look through the site and indeed a look back through past click mags you might be forgiven for thinking that Red Dead is not out for another year as there is little or no mention of its impending release, eventual release and no review, and although Alpha is probably not as big a draw leaving out a review of it just to review some horse shit soccer game seems strange, great review though. Granted Soccer is kinda topical right now but for a gaming web site surely big release games should be too, unless there is reviews of them on a soccer web site.

EA Says Crysis 2 Is 'Halo Killer'

EA Games label president Frank Gibeau has said he and his teamed have aimed to make a "Halo killer" with Crysis 2.

Stealing the console shooter's throne, he explained to IndustryGamers, was a focus of development for EA's sci-fi sequel.

"We were trying to craft a Halo-killer, you know a product that would squarely go after what Bungie built with our partners at Crytek. So the Crysis 2 product is spectacular, very high-end, and is going to be a multi-year franchise," said Gibeau.

When asked if EA went for a Bungie deal before the Halo studio signed up with Activision, he said: "At some point in the portfolio plan you've got, when you look at Crytek, DICE, Epic, the LA team building MoH, and then Respawn, you know we got a pretty damn killer team. There's not a lot of opening positions left on that roster and so that was definitely something that played into how we've looked at opportunities out there.

"...We're very pleased and confident with what we got and the franchises in our portfolio," he added

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Officially Confirmed

A Ubisoft rep has official confirmed Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, after validating a leaked photo of the placeholder box art for GameStop's shelf displays, scooped by Kotaku.

The front clearly has the game's title - Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - just as a previously Ubisoft-registered domain had suggested, with Ezio taking centre stage followed by what would seem to be the 'brotherhood' in question.

As the blurb on the back also reveals, gamers will be able to "Live and breathe as Ezio, now a legendary master assassin, in his struggle against the Templar order. Lead your own brotherhood of Assassins and strike at the heart of the enemy. Rome," it reads.

Even more revealing: "And for the first time, take part in an innovative multiplayer layer allowing you to embody an assassin of your choosing and define their killing style."

It goes on to promise: "A never-before-seen online multiplayer experience. Lead your own brotherhood of assassins, as Ezio, and conquer Rome."

A bonus sticker also teases a multiplayer character offered as a pre-order exclusive through GameStop, all of which has been confirmed as real by a Ubisoft rep, who said: "Ubisoft confirms the authenticity of this image and will provide more information next week."

Halo Reach Free for Silver Memberships!!

Bungie will let Xbox 360 owners who only have a Silver Xbox Live account (which is free of charge) play the Halo Reach multiplayer beta from May 14 at 5PM UK time.

The beta is currently exclusive to Xbox Live Gold subscribers, who pay £39.99 per annum for access to all multiplayer features of games on Xbox 360, along with other perks. Silver users will however be able to play the beta, for free, until May 17 at 5pm. As an added bonus to Silver Live users, multiplayer gameplay in Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST will also be available for free during that period.

The open beta comes to an end for everyone, Gold members included, on May 19.

PSN Issues Disrupt Modern Warfare DLC Launch

Sony says it’s working to solve wallet funding and DLC issues being experienced by European PlayStation Network users.

Numerous PS3 owners are reporting an inability to top up their accounts with funds via credit/debit cards in order to purchase content.

“As we expect traffic on PlayStation Network to be extremely high over the coming days customers should try to make any purchases outside of peak hours if at all possible,” Sony said on the PS Blog.

Meanwhile, some users with funds in their accounts are experiencing problems downloading or installing the newly released Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 DLC

A solution to this problem hasn’t been identified either, but Sony offered some potential workarounds in the meantime such as attempting to download the content during off-peak hours.

“We hope to resolve these issues soon and we apologise for the inconvenience,” the company added

'Don't Trust Gears Of War 3 Leaks', Says Cliff Bleszinski

Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski has warned gamers not to trust Gears of War 3 info leaked via scans of a Russian games mag.

According to translations of the mag, the third Gears of War game has humanity in pieces, split into tribes and fighting for their survival. After flooding the last human city, Marcus and Dom have taken refuge on an aircraft carrier called Raven's Nest (which you can see here), on which the game kicks off. You can read what the article related here.

But Bleszinski contests its authenticity: "Please don't trust badly translated leaked scanned info on Gears 3. Lots of false info out there," he tweeted.

He went on to say: "Gears 3 is nothing like Waterworld, my friends, you're doing it wrong. The Raven's Nest is only one level."

Battle.net Will Integrate With Facebook

Activision Blizzard has revealed that the new version of the company's online gaming platform, Battle.net, will be integrated with Facebook in a bid to enhance social gaming experiences.

The first step in the link-up will enable StarCraft II: Wings Of Liberty players to quickly add Blizzard gamers who are friends on Facebook to their Battle.net friend lists.

"We're pleased to be working with Facebook to integrate their platform with Battle.net to enhance the social-entertainment experience for our players," said Paul Sams, Blizzard’s chief operating officer. "This new functionality will make it easier than ever to connect with friends on Battle.net and play StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games together."

Battle.net’s new Facebook functionality will be tested in the coming months ahead of the game’s recently announced July 27 launch date.

The new Battle.net service will launch in conjunction with StarCraft II. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick described the platform late last year as follows:

“A true online destination platform, Battle.net will become the foundation for connecting the tens of millions of members of the Blizzard community in a social gaming network across all Blizzard’s future games. To put Battle.net into context, it will be a service similar to Xbox Live and it will leverage the technologies, infrastructure, and expertise that Blizzard has developed over the last decade in multiplayer play and social networking.”

Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz said earlier this week that he expects StarCraft II to sell five million copies in its first year of availability.

Problem with Splinter Cell conviction?

So, my boyfriend just bought splinter cell conviction, and we play co-op together, at least..between it freezing.

So it freezes a lot on loading screens and menus. But never during gameplay. Is anyone else having this problem? It's very annoying as you can imagine ... and we know it is not the console, because it only freezes with the splinter cell disk in it.

For any x-box owners who don't know the following weekend, starting friday 2nd I think, there is the first double xp weekend in line with the stimulus pack.

I'm Curious, why have you been running updates on the progress of this game for the last year, 11 feb Sega announce new game, 20 may first screen shots, 30 july more progress updates, 3 feb multiplayer demo available, 15 feb updated demo available, and now with the game released....... nothing.

Any chance of a review or a sum up or a few words to mark the occasion? It's only one of the reasons I come to this site is to see if a game is worth the money. I would have read it in the latest copy of click magazine but guess what? It ain't in it.

Offline Multiplayer dying?

Just wanted to ask the game.ie community if ye think offline multiplayer is dying out.Does anyone remember offline team deathmatches with a friend like timesplitters 2.Don't get me wrong online is amazing but you can feel a bit lonely running around a map in pure silence while u're friends have to be at their on home to play with you.Developers don't seem bothered to include offline anymore besides infinity ward,special ops is unbelievable and it has given me what i am looking for but it is the only game that does or can anyone recommend others thanks for any?

Live Streaming ESPN Coming to Xbox 360?

The Xbox 360 may soon become the ultimate go-to console for gaming and content: Microsoft and Disney have had "in-depth talks" about bringing live streaming ESPN content to the Xbox 360, the New York Times reports. According to anonymous (and vague) sources, Microsoft and Disney would bring ESPN to Xbox Live for a "per-subscriber fee" and thus trounce the competition in terms of media available on a gaming console.

The Xbox was once the only console that allowed users to stream Netflix Watch Instantly movies over Xbox Live, but now that its major competitors -- Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii -- have both added the Netflix feature, the Xbox 360 is in need of an extra boost to set it apart from the rest of the pack.

The question is whether or not Xbox Live subscribers would be willing to toss out extra dough to watch streaming sports. While some believe Microsoft should stop charging for Xbox Live altogether, I think that no matter the price tag, users will dash towards the media evolution of the gaming console.

Last March, Microsoft and British mega-broadcaster Sky announced that live Sky programming would be streamed on Xbox Live overseas. At the time, Microsoft didn't say anything about making similar deals in the United States, but it was a safe assumption that such deals were to come. Though both Microsoft and Disney declined to comment on the New York Times story, and one of the anonymous sources said the "deal was not imminent," the popularity surge for streaming content on videogame consoles suggests that unless something majorly political happens between the two giants, they'd be foolish to pass on a deal like this.

Modern Warfare2 flaws?

I know that on these pages a person might get a lynch mob after them for such a suggestion but the more I play it, and it's still a lot, I am finding that there is occurs times when you just spawn beside the son of a bitch who just killed you only to be killed again. Also if someone has the extra explosives damage perk on and becomes the chopper gunner it doesn't matter where you hide, you're going to die.

I know you could argue that everyone should then set up for that scenario but then it becomes a race to chopper gunner with the first one there the winner defeating the whole point.

Am I alone in this or am I just spending too much time online?

Netflix Wii support on the way, joining PS3, Xbox 360, kitchen sink

The leading US video game console will add streaming movies from Netflix to its array of features this spring.

That's the question many tech watchers are asking as they scan the home entertainment landscape and see Netflix support popping up like interstate billboards.

The Wii joins the PS3, Xbox 360, LG and Samsung Blu-ray players, TiVo, a set-top box from Roku, and even some TVs in offering access to Netflix's streaming catalog. Like the PS3, the Wii will require users to send away for a special disc to pop in when they want to watch streaming content.

Broadband-connected Wii users signed up for "unlimited" Netflix plans starting with its most basic $8.99 one can look forward to "Watch Instantly" support by spring 2010.

With all the "me-too" elements to this post, there's one area where the Wii just can't quite match its Microsoft and Sony competitors, and that's HD support. The Wii has always only been capable of displaying video at 480p standard definition. Up until now, that hasn't been much of a problem – who wants to see their Mii playing golf in 1080p? But now that streaming video is going to be piped in through the Wii, some have balked at the lack of HD support

On one hand, the complaints make sense – many people have Wiis hooked to large-screen HDTVs and want the quality they've paid for. On the other, is streaming HD video really at a point technologically where it should be considered a must, especially as a free add-on to a valuable service many already use?

We made the same argument – to some howls of protest – when YouTube announced they were supporting 1080p video. Nintendo of America's CEO agrees. "The fact of the matter is the vast majority of the instant streaming content that Netflix has available is non-HD and the fact is that... many consumers who have an HD television still aren't watching HD content through that television," Reggie Fils-Aime told the Seattle Times

Beyond gamers

The Wii partnership, announced Tuesday night on Netflix's official blog, will bring the company's streaming video capability to the 26 million US Wii owners – more than any other current console. The New York Times called it "further evidence of a movement by makers of game consoles to broaden their appeal by positioning them as a bridge between the living room television and a wider world of online multimedia."

The Wii has already helped to introduce gaming to a new segment of gamers – people who never thought they'd spend time pointing a controller at a screen. Microsoft is looking to do the same thing with its motion-capture Natal Xbox 360 add-on, out later this year. The Netflix-console deals aim to continue that expansion, lowering the price of admission by offering something many more are familiar with – watching movies.

Old games you think are still good

Late on sunday night, while at my parents house and on a high after a tipp victory, I started looking through my old collection of consoles for something to play for a while, when I came across a game that once dominated my console gaming.

Wondering how it would hold up against more modern games I fired it up.

Imagine my surprise to find that although it was decidedly rough looking around the edges, it still played and felt as wonderful as it had when I was but a teenager, and I was very tempted to pack it up and cart it off with me, console and all, for yet another run through... Although I stopped when I realised I just don't have the time atm.

The game was f-zero x, and i spent an awful lot of time as a boy trying to get my time on silence to below 21 seconds (I did eventually, I can't remember how low I eventually did get it, but I do remeber it was really really hard to get it below 21 seconds a lap) and mastering the death race.

I unlocked every car and every cup, I completed everything on the highest difficulty except for the final cup (I think. I'm not actually sure I didn't.) only to delete it all and do it again. Only to delete it again, get bored and use the unlock everything cheat because I wanted my black bull car..

And after playing it over the weekend for just one grand prix, I feel like doing it again. it's just that good.

So what I want to know, purely out of curiosity and maybe to stimulate a little discussion, is what games do you know or have in your history that you think have stood the test of time exceptionally well? Whats your f-zero X?

Other games of mine: Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country,
and Streets of Rage. I'm surethere are more, but I'm tired now and have to put in yet another 4/5 hours overtime tomorrow...

Modern Warfare Team Tournament

Good morning people.
I was in Xtreme Gamer yesterday for the Modern Warfare 1 v 1 competition. Needless to see it seems much more people are interested in team games.
Myself and my friend mentioned team tournament to one of the guys who runs the place.
Basically I'm wondering if there is much people here who would be interested in a 4 v 4 competition, be it on Modern Warfare or MW2.
